Home Stage Strategy Lesson #802 of #805 - "Outside in and Inside Out"

What was Karen thinking?

Let’s keep moving thru the kitchen today as I have some other great scenes to reveal.

You will recall last week that I talked about bringing the outside in and the inside out with the use of Greens and Yellows.

In this scene, we carried those same colors into the scene while adding one more layer of color, my favorite, dark red.  It always adds such a great dramatic flair or punch of color.   It is picked up in both the towel and the small cookbook and now allows us to carry that color into other scenes within in the kitchen, which you will see over the next few weeks. 

The Stager Pro’s really knew what they were doing when they created this scene as they made it specific to the customer as well.  It is a middle America home where both parents work, so they set “dinner” out in advance.  Very smart and it speaks directly to the customer.
When you look at the video just ask yourself “Does this scene feel good to me?” and “Who is the customer?”  I bet you will be able to answer the questions easily and effortlessly as it is so well defined for you.

Karen’s Book of the Month

This “book of the month” has a very special meaning for me,  my business and my family. It is written by someone who is not only a close friend, but who has also been my Mentor for the past few years. Due to absolutely no lack of irony or happenstance, these past few years have also been the most fun, profitable and fulfilling in my history as an Entrepreneur, Author, Coach and Leader.  It is with the highest level of enthusiasm and resolve - that I present my choice of “Book of the Month” written by none other than Bill Glazer, Leader of GKIC (Glazer-Kennedy Inner Circle).

Now, I’ll be up front with you - I had an extremely difficult time getting through Bill’s book.  I mean, how dare he include so many “brilliant Small Business Marketing Ideas” into one publication…. I mean, as an Entrepreneur myself, how could I possibly implement all of the solid aspects necessary to create highly-effective Direct-Response advertising, along with his minute attention to pure subtle genius in copywriting, while trying to fully digest the brilliant content?  

The book starts with Bill giving a little background about his experience (and huge Success!) in the Men’s Wear Industry, while running his own “brick and mortar” retail business called “Gage Men’s Wear”. For me, Bill’s history of using OUTRAGEOUS Marketing concepts with his own business, speak for themselves.

As one example, Bill explains how he came up with (and continues to come with) a Direct Response Marketing piece using the back of a Diner’s placemat (yes, from a Restaurant in his hometown of Boston) – he calls it the “Direct Mail Placemat Mailing”. Yes, it comes with coffee stains, menu items and a full Appetizer section … you’ll have to get the book (and the offer for the CD, which includes a full-color copy of all his Marketing pieces) to read about the specific message, but the results were amazing.

Upon sending out this “Placemat” mailing to his very astute, wealthy and “Corporate-minded” customer-base (A VERY IMPORTANT POINT TO REMEMBER), the response was an overwhelming success and allowed him to communicate what was to become one of his highest-grossing Sales events in the store’s history. Heck, he had lawyers, CEO’s of Major Companies and even a couple Accountants respond to the ad!

It was, and still is, a truly Outrageous example of getting noticed amongst the “noise of over-zealous and non-action specific - daily consumer advertisements” …which leads me to one of Bill’s MANY big Marketing lessons…

You MUST - Forget your past excuses of pretending that your customer is different and may not respond to this style of Direct Response Marketing. I will let you read his compelling argument about this excuse, but believe me, once you navigate this barrier in your own mind and start being a little more “Outrageous” in advertising… your sales too,  will increase.

Let me share one more of his big-lessons …. If you are looking to improve the results of your Marketing (and subsequent investment in marketing) then you had better start looking outside of your existing Industry as the answer is not going to lie with the guy/gal next door who is trying to sell the same thing you are!  

So, this book recommendation comes with both a WARNING and a CHALLENGE!

First, I warn you now – DO NOT attempt to put everything Bill talks about in place with your current Direct Mail/Response Marketing unless you have the System and Staff to handle the increase in Sales and New “Qualified” Customer Lead Generation.  I am being 100% Serious – the techniques that Bill uses are truly OUTRAGEOUS and as a result – produce Outrageous Responses!

Secondly, I CHALLENGE you to open the book to any page and NOT pull out at least one idea that you could use in your business – right NOW!  This goes for the front cover too!

I should be honest, this WILL be your highest-hurdle in finishing the book – Why, because on page 5 – you will want to run out and change your Marketing Materials accordingly…
